Game Day Skull Session: Get Dumped Next, Michigan State

Ohio State’s first test drive of the season is here.

Too bad it’s not really a test. The Buckeyes have one of the best offenses in the nation and the Spartans have one of the worst defenses in the nation in 2022. Not a good combo for Mel Tucker and Michigan State.

Ohio State is expected to exploit its opponent’s weaknesses repeatedly on Saturday behind the talented arm of CJ Stroud and top-tier receivers Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Ebugka and Julian Fleming. Of course Jaxon Smith-Njigba could also try this weekend, but I’m not holding my breath.

In current play, Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson are both starters in Tony Alford’s mind, and Ryan Day thinks they’ve both been effective in their respective roles this season. Day stressed the importance of running football on the road in the Big Ten, so I’d like to see Buckeye’s offense lean heavily on the football introduction as well. their Henderson’s hands this afternoon.

On defense, Jim Knowles continues to deliver for the Silver Bullets. Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers unlocked new gear and the defensive line as a whole impressed in several different areas. Ohio State is expected to have a dominant day against Michigan State’s offense, helping Ohio State earn another blowout conference victory.

The Buckeyes win this one big, 56-13.

BACK TO THE BUCKEYES. Earlier this week, we ran a poll that asked which Ohio State loss to Michigan State hurt the most as a Buckeye fan. The winner was the 1998 game between the programs – a game that ended 28-24 in favor of the Spartans.

I’m not sharing this just to stir salt in the wounds for all of you. It is not my intention. The purpose of showing you clips from one of the most devastating losses in Ohio State football history is that Michigan State might try to recreate some of the magic of that game by 2022.

On Saturday, Michigan State will wear similar (if not identical) helmets to the ones the Spartans wore when they upset Ohio State in the 1998 season. It’s pretty easy to read between the lines and see that they’re looking to recreate some of the magic their team had against the Buckeyes a long time ago.

In my opinion, this Michigan State move should make this year’s Ohio State team want to bury the Spartans even more to honor the former Buckeyes who suffered an untimely loss to their rival of the Big Ten, which probably cost them a chance to win the national championship.

But, again, that’s just my opinion. I take the 27 points in favor of the state of Ohio and breaking most. The Buckeyes didn’t need any scoreboard equipment to cover the spread because they probably will anyway, but I’m sure a little fuel on the fire makes a big win that much sweeter .

MY CHOICES. Making picks on college football games is tough, but I have fun making them. Here are some other picks for the Week 6 slate that are sure to be good!

RECORD 2022: 7-8

  • No. 17 TCU at No. 19 Kansas (+6.5) – ESPN College GameDay is in Lawrence, Kansas for the very first time. Do you really think Lance Leipold and Jalon Daniels are going to waste this opportunity for the Jayhawks? Rock Chalk all day, baby.
  • Texas A&M at No. 1 Alabama (-24.5) – I don’t really like either team, but I love the game. Nick Saban battled with Jimbo Fisher in the offseason, and Fisher fought back strongly. These are not things that Saban forgets easily. Alabama is ending the Aggies for good on Saturday.
  • Tulsa to Navy (+5.5) – Special upset! Navy is 1-3 this season, but they have an impressive win over East Carolina in overtime. I also loved how they competed in their first four games. Give me the wannabes and the amazing triple option this weekend.

THE SPARTAN FILE. We had a full week of coverage before the Michigan State game. Here’s everything you need to know about Ohio State’s game with the Spartans:

SONG OF THE DAY. “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses.
