Deion Sanders and Eddie Robinson Jr clash during post-match handshake: ‘He’s not SWAC’

Jackson State’s Deion Sanders and Alabama State’s Eddie Robinson Jr. had a heated interaction in midfield on Saturday following the Tigers’ 26-12 win over the Hornets.

Sanders and Jackson State picked up their 12th consecutive SWAC win and as the former NFL star went to meet Robinson for the postgame handshake, there seemed to be something wrong.

Both hands slapped and Sanders appeared to be shaking closer before Robinson put his hand on Sanders’ chest. Robinson then snatched his hand away and walked back to his locker room. Sanders was stunned by the interaction, asking what was going on.

The beef Robinson had with Sanders seemed to stem from the trash talk the former Dallas Cowboys cornerback and MLB player had in the days leading up to the game. He was particularly focused on Alabama State choosing Jackson State for their return game.

“It was great to invite us there because you’re going to make money. But what comes with money?” Sanders said. “…Not all money is good.”

Robinson didn’t seem to take Sanders’ comments too kindly and was apparently angry that Sanders didn’t greet him before the game. He played at Alabama State and had an 11-year career in the NFL before taking the reins as the school’s head coach in 2021.

Robinson said he was “living on the shoulders of SWAC” and suggested Sanders was falling short of standards.

“It’s not SWAC. I’m SWAC, he’s not SWAC,” Robinson said via ESPN. “He’s in the conference, doing a great job, can’t hit that, has a great team, his son should be in the running for the Heisman trophy, I love Shedeur, a great player, I love what he Done for the conference… But you’re not gonna come here and disrespect me, my team and my school and then want a hug from my brother Shake my hand and get the hell out of here.

Sanders had a rebuttal for Robinson.

“I’m not one to come back the next day and you’re gonna pick up the phone and you’re gonna apologize and we’re going straight,” he said. “No, not at all. You meant this mess. And one of the comments that kinda bothered me out of all the comments, that I’m not SWAC. Who is it? I have time today Who’s SWAC if I’m not SWAC Who’s SWAC if I’m not SWAC?
